In America in the beginning, the performance arts achievements of the young Maureen FitzSimons (who we know as Maureen O'Hara) would definitely be in the category of child prodigies. A child of Irish roots, surrounded as she was by gifted parents and family members, this came naturally. Maureen arrived in this nurturing refuge on the 17th of August 1920. Her family was her parents and family members. Her mother, Marguerita Lilburn FitzSimons, was an accomplished contralto. Charles FitzSimons was a successful businessman from Dublin who also controlled a portion of the Irish Shamrock Rovers, a soccer club in Ireland. Maureen FitzSimons was the child of Charles FitzSimons. Peggy, Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons complete this wonderful family. Maureen excelled as a sportswoman and participated in rough, competitive sports when she was a young. Her passion was coupled with a natural talent for performance. It was evident that she was the winner of every Feis for drama and theater which Ireland could offer. When she was in her 14th year she enrolled in an organization called the Abbey Theater to follow her aspirations and pursue studies in classical theatre and operatic vocals.
